Toronto based production wunderkid Jesse Futerman has been nice enough to provide us here at theNewHalifax with an exclusive mix of tracks that have been occupying his eardrums over the last little while.
Currently a student at Ryerson University, Jesse has been turning some rather critical heads over the last year with releases on Jus Like Music and Soulection Records, and radio play by BBC Radio 1's Gilles Peterson on his legendary Worldwide program. His debut EP release Super Basement is available for free download via his Bandcamp site and it landed at the top of numerous 2011 year end lists. Jesse is nicely carving out a corner for himself in the Toronto bedroom producer scene and from what we've been told we can expect some more productions to come out from his studio soon. Jesse's sets are all over the bass spectrum, but his original productions are typically of the heavily blunted hip hop/down-tempo variety. His tunes are absolutely spellbinding and display a maturity in their restraint and patience that is seldom achieved by producers his age. He After his incredible performance at our Traces party back in December here in Toronto, Jesse has been nice enough to bestow upon us this exclusive mixtape. Enjoy the mix.
